Today, hip-hop music is the most influential in the world music scene. It is said that embodied in the essence of the sound, lies strong messages for trends in politics, the economy, society, race relations, the world's youth, and so on. It's a machine sound with endless, inorganic loops and sampling sounds.
We have watched this genre with a careful eye, concerned about the possibility of the electronic drum gaining in popularity, potentially overwhelming the acoustic drum market like it did in the 80's.
On the other hand, it is a fact that in the music movement of organic hip-hop jazz, chasing among vocal and musical instruments typified "the roots" emerging in the 90's, as opposed to the typical DJ/MC groups staying at studio, and is making a stronger foothold.
We began our development with the root of the desired sound, found in a drum machine, Roland TR-808.
Canopus designed the drum set, called the "Hip Hop Kit," to allow drummers to play this style of music convincingly and created the desired sounds that Mr. Donald Rasadon Jones and Mr. Omer Philips (Now a day Pacific Drum endorser) recommended.
Through our discussion with Mr. Beatdown McQueen, the drummer in Mr. M. Shinoda's solo project, "Fort Minor," (Mike Shinoda is a key person with Linkin Park, the No.1 band in the world, selling 35 million albums), the CANOPUS designers finally found what they were all looking for: the funky sound associated with 70's soul and funk.
At the same time we were developing the Piccolo Snare Drum we named, "Tribute to DG," which we consider to be the best drum suitable for reproducing the funk music sound reminiscent of the 70s'.
We looked at these styles and combined them with current hip hop sounds and came up with the hip hop package which contains a Maple 6"x10" snare and a 4" x 14" Bronze Piccolo.
CANOPUS releases our new Hip Hop Package, carefully developed with suggestions from Mr. BEATdown McQueen, offering the best combination to capture the essence of the hip-hop sound.
It includes a 6"x10" Maple Snare Drum for percussive sound and a 4"x14" Bronze Piccolo Snare Drum for a clear sound with quick attack to provide the required backbeat.
