Our Sweeping Birch Sound

R.F.M. series. CANOPUS' presentation of "ideal sound". was enthusiastically supported by many drummers. However. historically speaking. a musical instrument has to change to cope with a new playing method. new tune and tends of a new age. A musical instrument is always destined to face new demands. even if the manufacturer made his masterpiece with confidence. We were no exception to face such new demands. Hard rock and funk drummers are requesting. "vertically projecting sound" and this became a key word for the next drum development.

In order to gain "vertically projecting sound". we decided to use shells without reinforcement. We tried many materials. After our research. we have concluded that birch is the best material for rock. We made various trial and errors in fixing the number of ply and made adjustments to edge angle. Finally we have presented the birch series with startling sound character that can renew the image of the birch shell held by drummers. We were fortunate to find out that our birch series has a "weathered" and "rich sound". because the density of the birch we adopted was "less dense" and the pressure of molding was a bit weaker than usual. All of these findings were discovered unexpectedly and worked out for us.

Our birch series has a heavy and sustaining low sound and a powerful and glutinous sound. Above all. we have realized "vertically projecting sound". Fast release and excellent sound projection are remarkable characters. Many rock drummers strongly support our birch series and use them in stage performances and studio recording.

Drummers' demand. which triggered us to make this series later. became a meaningful guidepost to make custom drums. It is impossible to have one drum sound that can cover all genre of music. Later. our custom line specializing in specific genre of music has developed as an extension of this birch series.
