Brent Follis
Official sitePROFILE
Nationality: U.S.A.
Brent Follis has been passionate about the drums since his early days while growing up in Illinois. After several years of playing with local musicians he relocated to the St. Louis area where he attended Southern Illinois University. During that time, he worked diligently as a sideman with some of the best musicians in St. Louis, accompanying multiple artists and dance bands, as well as leading his own jazz quartet. After receiving his Degree in Advertising and Music Performance, Brent relocated to the West Coast. It was in Portland, Oregon where he befriended master drummer Israel Annoh of Ghana, West Africa, who continued to help shape Brent's style of playing. Follis also continued his studies by immersing himself in Portland State University's Jazz program. After two additional years of study and playing with some of the greatest musicians on the scene, he relocated to New York City.
As a current resident of NYC, Brent maintains a busy recording and performance schedule and can be found backing up many talented singer-songwriters and pop artists. Providing a great feel, uncovering the nuances of each song, and creating a unique and supportive drum part are the most important aspects of playing the drums for him.
Message to CANOPUS
Living in NYC requires you to constantly play in many different musical situations, so it’s important to have drums that are versatile and sound great in any setting. If Canopus drums are tuned up high for a jazz setting, or tuned down low for a Pop, or singer-songwriter session, they always sound and feel amazing! They have a certain vintage quality and warmth that I love, but also work perfectly in a modern setting. These are sexy drums that really sing! I’m proud to be a part of the Canopus family page up
