Rudy Royston was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, and raised in Denver, Colorado.  While in high school and later while studying Classical percussion at Denver University, Rudy began playing professionally on the Denver music scene, performing with artists such as Nelson Rangel, Dotsero, Stefan Karlsson, and one of Denver's premier trumpeters, Ron Miles.  Rudy directed award winning music programs in the pubic school systems in Colorado before moving to the New York area in 2006 to attend graduate school at Rutgers University and study with Victor Lewis. Since moving to New York Rudy has performed and toured with many great musicians, including Ben Allison, Javon Jackson, Les McCann, Sean Jones, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Edward Simone, Jennifer Holiday, Ralph Bowen, Bruce Barth, George Colligan, Don Byron, Stanley Cowell, Jenny Scheinmen David Gilmore, JD Allen, Bill Frisell, and more.
