Well Balanced Ideal Sound
The first thing we did upon developing R.F.M. was to visualize our ideal maple sound character. The existing maple drum shell has an image that is "bright and solid sound". On the other hand. some shortcomings were mentioned. too. "The shell itself is not resonating enough". "mid range is not sustaining enough" or "unwanted overtone is bothering".
We concluded that it must be possible to develop maple shell drums that draw the line with existing maple drums by solving these problems. Therefore. Canopus is conducting on-going research. For example. when we make a thin shell for greater resonance. we lose sustain and we cannot feel the core in sound. We know this through our experience and accumulated observations.
What we noted was reinforcement. Reinforcement was originally meant to reinforce the shells. But we decided to use it positively as a tool to control sound. We have tested all combinations in width. thickness and numbers of ply. As a result. we have established our original concept in reinforcement. Depending on a shell's diameter and depth. we should have different reinforcement construction as well as different shell construction. We have completed our R. F. M. series that has bright and solid sound with enough mid range tone and resonance of shell. We realized the core of drum sound. too. Our maple drums have a wide tuning range and easy to gain resonance with excellent balance as a drum-set. We recommend our maple drums for all genre of drummers. |
